End of Year Post
This is the fourth year I’ve used this series of questions for my end-of-the-year post, and I still have no idea where I originally found it.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before? Exercised 365 days in a row (and still going strong.)
2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and [...]

Ice Berg Ramming
As bed frames go, the futon serves me well because the arms stop me from falling out of bed when the cats are hogging 75% of the available space. No, not 25% per cat — Mike and Dorey were taking up two-thirds of the bed all on their own this morning when I woke up.
Right [...]

Ten Minutes Well Spent
The First Five
The morning newspaper serves as my most consistent nanny for R. Leave her with a fresh cup of coffee and the current day’s edition and you’re looking at a good hour to get stuff done beyond the confines of the house. Yesterday my major goal was to get to the library and then [...]

Post-XMas Report
Christmas here on the old homestead did not go off without a hitch, but in the greater scheme of things, there were fewer hitches than in years past. My housemate’s behavior Christmas Eve was dreadful, a pattern that continued in the night with calls for “help” that amounted to nothing but opportunities to further stir [...]

Christmas at the Wookies

Award Nomination for my Cousin
Just spoke with Mother for Christmas Eve and she told me that my first cousin, Mary Elizabeth, who is blind, has been nominated for an achievement award. I don’t know the woman well, but have kept up with her through family gossip. The attitude she expresses in the article is remarkable in a quiet way. [...]

Christmas Eve – Assessment in Progress
In an effort to get through the season without the aid of weight loss pills, I’ve been pretty good about holiday temptations. I bought one box of Christmas sugar cookies at Central Market and R. has been working on those since December 1. Last year all I heard was cookies, cookies, cookies. She wanted to [...]

Revisionist History, R. Style
Memories and Christmas time seem to coexist in our world like peanut butter and jelly — half sticky, roof-of-the-mouth clinging muck, half sweet easy stuff. We watch Jimmy Stewart realize, year after year after year that his life does matter and we all know that “every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.” [...]

Dr. Susan Plays Santa
Dr. Susan and Nathan came over this afternoon so she could examine Dorey’s mouth and feel of the lump in his neck, which I discovered last night is significantly larger. Of course, I panicked. I am blessed, truly blessed, to be able to text my vet (who is also my friend) and have her call [...]

Squirrels Have Right of Way
Friday I had to take my beautiful yellow bike, Slim, in to see the guys at the repair shop. I blame two incidents for the state of affairs that led to the trip.
First, people walking children in strollers shouldn’t wear headphones. You can bellow “behind you” or “on your left” at the top of your [...]
