The Back Story

Since announcing the second tattoo Friday evening and explaining its meaning, I’ve gotten a lot of emails and messages to the effect of, “Great symbolism, now what’s the story?” Frankly, the decision itself was spur of the moment even if I had been thinking about getting a second tattoo for some time now.
You see Dorey [...]

Angel’s Gate Animal Hospice

By chance yesterday I saw a re-run of an Oprah episode in which an animal hospice called Angel’s Gate was profiled. They are a residential, non-profit hospice for animals who are terminally ill or physically challenged.
Most are so-called “throw aways” that have been rescued. Some residents are dogs whose deformities were caused by the inbreeding [...]

Crazy Cat Lady? Maybe, but ask me if I care.

Click thumb for larger image.
I’ve been talking about getting my second tattoo for months now, but suddenly I knew what I needed to do and what meaning it would have. Dorey starts his cancer meds tomorrow. I wanted to do something to honor all he’s been through and the lessons he’s taught and is teaching [...]

Trinity River Scene

Trinity River

Originally uploaded by RanaW.

Today was an exceptionally full and busy day and I was dying to get out on my beautiful yellow bike, Slim. We had an eight-mile excursion that included trying out the trails on the south side of the Trinity River.

Dead Man’s Tomatoes

My crazy cousin C. and I have an intermittent email relationship, but we never let too many months go by without checking in. Her initial messages run toward “this address still good?” I reply with an equally laconic missive and before long we wind up on the phone. Last night after I put R. to [...]

Drama Epidemic

There’s a good reason why massage therapy schools always have students — the fact that there is an international drama epidemic afoot in our lives.
Last night after supper I realized I had forgotten to get Midnight, our feral kitty, a new sack of dry food. I put my shoes back on and went to the [...]

Of Bikes and Books

First the part about bikes. Last night I finally had a chance to test out the new lights on Slim and had a wonderful six mile ride. From where I have been parking routinely to the head of the trail at the river is one mile. I took the right hand trail down to the [...]

Sunday, A Day of Rest . . . Please

It’s fair to say we had a tumultuous week. We were having a hard enough time recovering from our trip and getting back to our routine when the news about Dorey hit us like a freight train. At the time it was happening, I thought R. was just being difficult, but I realize now that [...]

News I Wish I Didn’t Have to Share

I have news that I did not want to receive and that I do not want to pass along. There’s no sense beating around the bush. Dorey’s cancer has returned.
The day before we left for the Little Town, Dr. Susan found a red spot in Dorey’s mouth in the identical location as the last tumor. [...]

Cursing in the Metroplex

This is probably just a brief window of connectivity as more rain is on the way for North Texas. And rain for me means a downed Internet connection. It happens every time and the cable company routinely tells me they can have someone here in two weeks to check it out. They do not get [...]
