About the Question Marks

Hey gang, I just had occasion to be flipping through the archives looking for something and discovered that in some of the older entries apostrophes, quotation marks, and occasionally commas have been changed for question marks.
After the mess with iPowerWeb, I figure we’re so lucky to have the content 99% intact, I’m not too upset [...]

USBcell: Another Beautifully Simplistic Idea

My old rechargeable batteries have been dying a slow death for months now and the charger was not far behind. They’ve all done yeoman service for three years and I’d stretched their demise long beyond the reasonable expectation. You see R. and I use two-way radios as an intercom system in the house and [...]

New Photo Gallery

Although this thumbnail is from my Flickr stream, I wanted to let you all know that I have gotten Gallery re-installed. You can visit my photos at gallery.ranablog.com. I have not enabled comments because in the old gallery I had to contend with a lot of juvenile spam on the photos. If you [...]

The Tricks of Memory

The ability of our brains to retain and to recall information has long fascinated me, even more so after having lived with a woman for five years who daily struggles with short-term memory loss. This past weekend in the Little Town I experienced my own share of memory glitches and anomalies.
My Mother has a habit [...]

The Breaking of the Digit

There should be a good story — a tale worthy of what is probably at least a cracked and perhaps a broken bone. But there isn’t.
I was putting R.’s wheelchair in the back of the van and securing it, as I’ve done hundreds of times before, with a bungee cord. (This would be the high-priced [...]

Caps in the Air

The graduation ceremonies went off without a hitch even though the event was moved into the gym thanks to the rainy weather. (I was ready to write a check to anyone who would turn on the damn air conditioner, however.)
I saw many old friends and acquaintances although I frequently had to ask for [...]

South Llano River

When I said it rained down in these parts, I meant that it rained. This is the South Llano River at Flat Rock Crossing. The “keep out” sign is a bit redundant given the current state of the area. Trust me, there really is a little concrete bridge under all that water.
Graduation ceremonies [...]

Drought Breaking Rain?

Granted, my appearances in the regions of the Little Town are few these days, but I didn’t expect the heavens to open up in my wake and flow forth with a drought-breaking rain. When R. and I left the Big City yesterday a little after 3, rain was just beginning to fall. By the time [...]

Blogus Interruptus

Today’s blogging was thwarted by the fact that I am trying to prepare us for a 36-hour trip down to the Little Town for the high school graduation ceremony. (The daughter of an old friend is in the Class of 2007.) While one would assume that so brief a trip would be a simple matter, [...]

Pak-Lite: Modern Day Candle

The Pak-Lite may simply be too basic to warrant a review, but it’s also simplistically brilliant. What is it? A nice boxy little 9v battery with a snap-on top that gives you an on/off switch and two incredibly bright LEDs. (Oh, and just to keep you in the cool kid zone, the top glows [...]
