Don’t Try This At Home
Scott over at thefatguy.com gave me my first laugh of the day when I read his comment under my dragonfly photo from a few days ago, “OK. Time to spill. How in the world can you get THAT close to a dragonfly with a teeny camera? You must be a ninja.” The first thought that [...]

Prey

A damselfly hangs suspended and helpless after being captured by a red wasp.
Update: Thanks to Forrest Mitchell of Texas A&M, I stand corrected. That’s not a wasp, but an asilid fly, a particularly fierce predator that will, according to Forrest, even go after grasshoppers. Check out Forrest’s page, “Damselflies of Texas.”

Wild Cats
This afternoon G. and I went out together to play with our cameras. I bought my Canon G5 after playing with hers but she’s still trying to learn how to punch all the buttons. Taking advantage of a glorious day in the eighties, we strolled through the botanic gardens on the lookout for dragonflies and [...]

Seven Freaking Thirty
Friday morning I agreed to meet our only sane neighbor, Teach, and the sprinkler guy in the driveway at 7:30. Seven freaking thirty. God only knows what I was thinking, but with all the trouble we’ve had around here lately with our neighbor C. who lives on the planet Thin Air and keeping the reigning [...]

Yesterday Was A Blur
Yesterday was a blur of sprinkler repair, related yardwork, household chores involving tools and the helping hands of Missy J., and getting the infamous letter mailed to the Nasty Niece. All good stories but I was just too tired last night to write it all up.
Today we’re having company for lunch so I have to [...]

Made in Texas
This morning I slipped out around 9 o’clock for a much needed haircut. I always have an entertaining time of it at F.’s Beauty Parlor and Toupee Emporium, so I expected to get a few laughs in addition to sorely needed shorn locks. It was either get a trim or a flea collar.
When I walked [...]

Lessons in Diplomacy
How could today have only been Tuesday? My God I feel like it has to be at least Friday two weeks from now. In addition to the mess with the homeowner’s association I’ve had to deal with two folks who have consistently refused to accept the changes in R.’s personality and mobility since the stroke. [...]
