To Strive For Clarity

Creatures that exist with a specific clarity of purpose comfort me. Often our paths cross on days like yesterday when I have an unknown need to meet them. During a tumultuous and frustrating day my errands chanced to bring me into contact with a Writing Spider. Most people, spying a three to four inch spider [...]

Web Work Follow-up

Thanks to Fred for the spider ID. (See entry below.) They really are handsome creatures. I found this site with many photos that are much more clear than my own.

Web Work

Now this is what I call real web work. I had to deliver some invoices this afternoon and when I came out of one office the sun hit this web and the monster spider at its center but it was the zig-zag central pattern that really caught my eye. Anyone know what’s up with that? [...]

Al Passed Away

On September 5, I wrote about Al sitting on his front porch. They found him dead last night on the floor of his bedroom. He’s one of those 1,800 World War II vets who die every day. There’s another B-25 pilot up there in the Where Ever now and Al, if you see my Papa, [...]

7 p.m., random musings from the coffee shop at the bookstore

The Death of An Educated Cowboy

Telegrams used to be the purveyors of bad news. During World War II women dreaded the visit from an officer and a chaplain. Now, we have ill tidings coming from so many sources we’ve developed a thick skin, impervious to the sound bite and the film clip. Yesterday during breakfast I sat reading blogs and [...]

By Request

By request, here’s a shot of the cock’s combs I talked about in this morning’s entry. As you can see, the ones I bought are pretty puny but the one from seed is a big strapping fellow with an attitude.

Been Carving Again

R. liked my cloaked angels so much she asked me to do a figure without wings. Here’s the result. She’s about 8 inches high. The stone is a deep jade green but it’s very hard to photograph. This was the best of about two dozen shots.
