No Real Entry For Awhile
While I find it hard to believe this Monday could be as bad as last Monday’s sewer crisis, I’m not going to tempt the fates by saying more than that. This is R.’s birthday week (Wednesday is the actual day) and an old friend of hers is having a little luncheon for her today. R. [...]

Sunday Morning in the Intersection
The guy in the white shirt and tie was turning at the light when the two fellows in shorts hit him and sent his car up the hill and into someone’s yard. In general, the cop wasn’t amused, especially since all of Shorts Boys’ friends, neighbors, and relatives showed up to be “helpful.”

Looking For A Quiet Day In All The Wrong Places
There are those visionaries among us who believe in the magic of simply announcing one’s plans to the Universe. Just tell your personal representative on the Powers That Be panel what you want and it will come. Just like going through the line at Luby’s and saying, “Mashed potatoes, no gravy. Thanks, I’ll skip the [...]

Miss Tattoo and the Gypsy
As if a cool day in June complete with rolling gray clouds and intermittent rain were not perfect enough in its own right, an early physical therapy session yesterday allowed R. and me the time and energy for a bookstore outing that stretched into the early evening. For some reason my usual round of photography [...]

Of Pipe Imaging and Philosopher Cops
Our favorite weatherman wears outrageous bowties and loud suits but if you look closely at his left lapel he always pins a tiny gold cross to his latest iridescent jacket. Some latent streak of religious something makes me want to trust a man who dresses like a clown, conducts a massive toy drive for poor [...]

That’s A Lovely Dress You’re Wearing, Mrs. Cleaver
I’d say Mr. Scott screwed up and transported me into June Cleaver’s life, but I don’t think the Cleavers even had a bathroom. If they did, it most certainly never spewed sewage, even when the Beaver crammed his baseball mitt down the drain. Nope, in the Cleaver household nothing but clean water would have flowed [...]

Thanks Guys! You’re great!
I put this thank up via comments but then I opened my email box to another round of plumbing commiserations, so I thought I better make it an acutal post:
Thanks so much, everyone, for the commiserations by posted comment and by email. Last night I felt like a truck ran over me. Poor R.! She [...]

Once It’s Flushed . . .
11:10 p.m., Monday, June 23: Monday hit with a vengeance. Actually, more like a blood vendetta. No, now that I think about it, the day was on par with the plagues of Egypt all occurring simultaneously. After many hours of being otherwise, I am now clean, cool, headache free, and not hungry. During the [...]

Plumbing Crisis
Two plumbers. Six inches of water in my bathroom. Pipes bubbling all over the house. Pine tree on top of clean out valve. Bathtub full of sh**. Mad cats contained in travel boxes. Can’t use the water. If I ever do manage a real entry today it will be a doozie. Pray to all gods.

Opportunities Seized, Magic Believed
After a hectic two days the house has finally grown still. I’ve set the MP3 player to repeat a collection of Chopin Nocturnes performed by Anton Moravec and I’m settled into my over-stuffed chair in a room lit only by the bedside lamp and the laptop screen. With the breeze from the fan blowing across [...]
